Dostinex 0.5 mg Cabergoline 8 Tablets
Cabergoline (brand name Dostinex by Pfizer and Cabaser) is a medicine which is a potent agonist at dopamine D2 receptors, which are derived from fruit body of the fungus species ergot (Claviceps purpurea). In vitro studies in rats have shown that cabergoline has a direct inhibitory effect on the production of prolactin in the pituitary gland. Dostinex can have serious side effects and use should only take place under the careful guidance of specialist and regular follow-ups.
Dosage and administration
Parkinson’s disease : A low starting dose ( 1 mg ) , very slow dose escalation due . the long plasma half-life ( beginning with 0.5-1 mg per week , later every other week ) . The usual maintenance dose in combination with levodopa : 2.6 mg once a day.
Prolactin lowering treatment
1 mg within 24 hours after birth . If it fails to effect , the dose may be repeated after 6-8 hours . Effect is usually obtained within 3 hours and lasts for several weeks. Treatment should be initiated under specialist supervision and must be evaluated periodically for clinical efficacy and risk of serious side effects.
